    March 13 - April 7, 2017 (PPVT)

    April 17 - May 5, 2017 (PALS)

  • Assessment Details:

We are planning for a great school year in Pre-K! Two assessments that will be given this year are the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) and the Picture Peabody Vocabulary Test (PPVT-4). These assessments are requirements of the Birth to 5 Striving Reader's Grant, which was awarded to the district this summer. The results of the assessments will allow teachers to tailor instruction to children’s specific needs.

The PALS assessment measures preschoolers’ developing knowledge of important literacy fundamentals. It measures name writing ability, upper-case and lower-case alphabet recognition, letter sound and beginning sound production, print and word awareness, rhyme awareness and nursery rhyme awareness.

The PPVT-4 measures a child's receptive (hearing) vocabulary. The assessment includes words and image plates. Each image plate contains 4 black-and-white drawings, one of which best represents the meaning of the corresponding stimulus word.

There is not a pass/fail to the assessments. The results of the assessments allow teachers to know the skill levels of the students and provide instruction to each child according to his/her needs.

The results of your child's assessments will be shared with you throughout the year.

If you have any questions regarding the assessments, you may contact me or your child's teacher.
