2019-2020 Pre-K Registration

Pre-K Registration Changes: Now Aligned with Colquitt County Schools

Moultrie, GA - January 15, 2019 – The Colquitt County Pre-K program recently updated student registration guidelines to better serve the students, families, and employers of our community. The Pre-K program will no longer utilize the method of “first come, first served.”

Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be the same as all other grades in the Colquitt County School System.  Nick Chastain, Pre-K Director, studied the issue extensively since taking over the program in July and received feedback from parents, school system leaders, and community stakeholders. Colquitt County Pre-K program is funded by the Georgia State Lottery and governed by Bright from the Start (BFTS).

Mr. Chastain stated, “We are fortunate in Colquitt County to have a superintendent and school board willing to invest in and support our youngest students.  This investment allows every elementary school in Colquitt County to participate in the BFTS Pre-K program.  Each Pre-K classroom is staffed with a certified teacher and paraprofessional and uses the same technology found in K-5 classrooms.  Breakfast/lunch, school supplies, and field trips are provided at no cost.  We have one of the top programs in Georgia and want to serve every eligible child in Colquitt County.”

Pre-K Assessments for 2018-2019

  • Assessment Details:
We are planning for a great school year in Pre-K! Three assessments will be given this year:  Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS), Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test 4th ed. (PPVT-4), and Work Sampling Online (WSO). The results of these assessments will allow teachers to tailor instruction to children’s specific needs.

The PALS assessment measures preschoolers’ developing knowledge of important literacy fundamentals. It measures name writing ability, upper-case and lower-case alphabet recognition, letter sound and beginning sound production, print and word awareness, rhyme awareness and nursery rhyme awareness.

There is not a pass/fail to the assessment. The results of the assessment allow teachers to know the skill levels of the students and provide instruction to each child according to his/her needs.

The results of your child's assessments will be shared with you throughout the year.

If you have any questions regarding the assessments, you may contact me or your child's teacher.
